Whyville Fieldtrip

I am going to introduce my students to the nutrition eating challenge first. I have tried it and I am definitely hooked. I am still a novice...so..my students and I will travel together. I am going to make Whyville available during my daily warm-up exercises....thinking about a scavenger hunt of some kind.

I have been attempting the Why Eat Challenge. This are tough to solve. I have been successful with at solving..."not enough calories.. too many calories.. not enough vitamin c and too much caffine"

I am also taking part in the "why Eat Health journal" and I go in and eat my menus daily. I don't have time for more than one visit a day, so it will allow me to eat all 3 meals on one visit. The program encourages students to each in chat. I have not done that yet. So far I am healthy.

This is a great activity. It has been challenging to find foods that balance things as they should be. I have even done a bit of research.

I would encourage all teachers to get students involved in this project. - MrsMck

Glad to see you are getting into nutrition.

We are very much looking forward to your comments and ideas on how to make this easier to use in your classroom. We know it is challanging -- but so is good nutrition.

Let us know.

Sharon came to see me on an urgent matter and caught me playing in whyville. I have now done all but the evil fiber challenge. Sharon (now with good hair and ear rings) now tells me once I select a food to change, I can click on the nutrient I am wanting to increase will produce a list of ranked foods with that nutrient. This really helped except I still can't get the fiber challenge

I also have now developed an odd avatar because I have eaten too much fat in the last 7 days. It is Christmas time after all. So tomorrow, I will have to eat better.

Super Id.. It is wonderful to have you join us.. thanks - MrsMck

I know this post is a little late... but the WhyEat challenge is a tad easier to do if you're using Firefox! I noticed that in IE you have to select the new food to see what it changes while you can just scroll through the options with Firefox and it shows you in real time. Maybe it's just my versions here in the classroom but Firefox made a difference! (WhyEat 8 of 8)
