Hi Everyone,
Sorry for the registration problems … in general, how’s it going? How can we help?
Cliff
Waco ISD has a wonderful opportunity to enhance your classroom teaching in a virtual world. This educational opportunity is at www.whyville.com. WISD 8th graders will get an opportunity to participate in a pilot program offered by the Texas Workforce Commission and Numdeon, Inc. In this pilot project the teachers that participate will be entitled to a stipend to help in the development of Whyville as a tool in the classroom.

Everything is going pretty good. Students are really enjoying the games and learning a lot. I would like for us, if possible to be able to have separate class lists for different classes. Also, if on the class roster we could get the student's full name along with their user name. This will help me to identify students quicker for grading purposes. I will have all new students this semester and will need to start over with Whyville. I have fine tuned some activities so that it will be easier to get them signed on and chatting.
Thanks Wanda
I took the opportunity to use the last two weeks of my Technology Systems 7th & 8th grade semester classes and introduce them to Whyville. I also will have all new students this semester and will have to start over with Whyville. How do you get student roosters?
My students showed up for class early and immediately started their Whyville activities. My discipline problems were next to nothing during the Whyville activities. The only problem I had was keeping their excited voices to a learning level for all students. There is enough variety to keep all types of student learners happy and learning.
I kept telling them that they needed a balanced diet or they would get sick. It was very interesting how much they learned in the nutritional areas of the game. Some of the diets they picked led very quickly to overweight, pale and various other alignments that they were able to correct nutritionally.
Each day students would delight in finding a new activity I had not experienced and sharing it with other students. It amazed me because even students that had poor participation in my class were learning, then teaching the new activities.
I found I had to set minimum salary goals for the students to be on the beaches or playing the games like checkers or marbles. Once I introduced them to the games and activities that added to their daily salaries, they took off really learning new things. I am looking forward to seeing other goals some of you have had to set to direct some of the activities.
I love the way this program captures the interests of the students and holds it. Whyville includes activities for all level junior high students. It is a very addicting learning game and I will continue to use its power to motivate students. I like the Wednesday Whyville idea.
Thanks, Johnebelle
